Bomb & Gouge: Bubba Watson

'I've never had an instructor. It's more fun to me that way.'

David Leadbetter's swing analysis
Bubba is tall and loose-limbed, which allows him to create tremendous leverage in his swing. To describe his action is to describe swing instruction out of the 1970s: Make a big turn behind the ball, extend the arms, get the hands high at the top, stay back at impact. He makes a powerful change of direction: a dramatic down-cocking action with his wrists combines with super-fast hip rotation for a major power move. His hips are fully turned at the top, and by halfway down they're already back to square. The club slings through impact, but his swing never looks rushed to the naked eye.
